We will explain how to install OSMC on your Raspberry Pi, to turn it into a media-center, what OSMC is, and finally how to install OSMC on your Raspberry Pi, from Windows, Linux and Mac!
Kodi, a mix between Raspbian and Kodi media-center
Before we take the plunge by installing Kodi on our Raspberry Pi, let's do a little presentation of this system.
Kodi is a free media player dedicated to media centers. It was originally designed for the Xbox but now works on many platforms, including the Raspberry Pi. It is now one of the central media-center solutions!
As a reminder, a media-center is a computer used for multimedia use. Most often connected to a TV, it allows you to watch your movies, your series, listen to your music, surf on the internet, etc..
Kodi is distributed under the GNU/GPL 2 license, so it is a perfectly free software. It should be noted that Kodi was previously called "XBMC".
Kodi, therefore, also supports the addition of Python scripts to increase its functionality (in general, if you are going to use Raspberry Pi in areas such as home automation, you might want to look into python).
Here we're talking about OSMC, not just Kodi, OSMC is actually a Raspbian-based distribution that adds Kodi to Raspbian. So this distribution is a perfect choice for setting up a media-center!
Installing OSMC on your Raspberry Pi
We will now see how to install OSMC on your Raspberry Pi, don't worry, OSMC made the installation even easier than before!
Download OSMC
To download OSMC, simply go to the project site and choose the operating system from which you wish to create the SD card.
Once the software has been downloaded, launch it to start the installation of the MicroSD card.
Installing OSMC on the MicroSD card
When the software is launched you will arrive on the following page:

Select the language of your choice from the first drop-down menu |
Choose the type of machine on which you want to install OSMC (for us a Raspberry Pi 3).
The second drop-down menu defines on which type of Raspberry Pi you want to install OSMC.
If it is a Raspberry Pi 3 (or model 2), choose "Raspberry Pi 2/3", otherwise choose "Raspberry Pi 1/Zero". Once this is done, click next.
You now arrive on the version choice page.

Choose the OSMC version you wish to install |
Choose the most up-to-date version from the drop-down menu. Make sure the "Use a local build on my computer" checkbox is unchecked, then click next.
This will take you to the installation device selection window.

Choose the type of disk on which to install OSMC |
Choose SD card installation and proceed to the next step.
You are now on the step of choosing the type of internet connection, choose the type of internet connection you want your Raspberry Pi media-center to use

Set the type of connection to be used |
If you have chosen to use a Wi-Fi connection, the next step will ask you to enter the credentials of the Wi-Fi network to which you want to connect your media center (this information should be available in your media center configuration). You are now at the step of choosing the device on which OSMC will be installed.

Choose the SD card on which OSMC will be installed |
Click on your SD card in the list of available devices, then do the following. Accept the license and go to the next step.Write to the card. Once it is finished you can eject your MicroSD card.
Conclusion
OSMC is now installed on your MicroSD card. All you have to do is insert it into your Raspberry Pi and boot it.
As an additional tip, you can find smartphone applications that allow you to control OSMC with your phone. We'll probably do a quick tutorial on the subject in a while.
